Pink
Color Song
(Sing to the
tune: Jingle Bells)
Cotton candy, fat pink pigs,
Girls with socks and bows,
P-i-n-k, p-i-n-k,
That is how it goes!
Bubble gum, valentines,
These are all pink too.
Pink icing and pink balloons,
We can spell can you? Yes!

Songs,
Rhymes, and Fingerplays
Pink
(Sing to the tune of : Frere Jacques)
P-I-N-K
P-I-N-K
That spells pink.
That spells pink.
Bubble gum is pink
Pigs and piggies pink
Pink, Pink, Pink
Pink, Pink, Pink
I'M A LITTLE
PIGGY
(Tune: "I'm a Little Teapot")
I'm a little
piggy
With a round pig nose.
I'm all pink
From my head to my toes.
Here's my piggy tail,
As you can see,
It's pink and curly
As it can be.
Pink
Pink skies and butterflies
are truly a sight to see,
But pink-eye infection would
be no fun for me.
Grapefruit pulp, the salmon's flesh,
carnations in a vase,
Pink elephant nightmares
with candy as the cause.
Stop and think about the pink
that's everyday around you,
Ballerina sister, a bouncing twister,
around the house in her tutu.
Pink Song
(tune of Jingle Bells)
Pink, pink,
pink.
Pink, pink, pink.
P I N K, pink.
A baby's toes,
A bunny's nose.
Shades of pink, I think.
(Frere Jacques)
P-i-n-k, p-i-n-k,
that spells pink,
that spells pink,
Like some bubblegum
or a piggy’s belly,
P-i-n-k, p-i-n-k.

Arts
and Crafts
Paint fun
Give children red and white paint in cups, along with a spoon or two, paint
brushes and a third container. Have them add whatever quantities of each color
they want, stirring and mixing to their hearts delight. Then have them paint
with the colors they have come up with. Seeing where
pink comes from is really fun and so important for
cognitive development. You can control the color by just giving a dab of red
and lots of white in the 2 cups.
Pink Search
Collect scraps of wrapping paper all year. For
this theme, have the children search for scraps that contain the color pink.
They can cut the flowers or whatever pink shapes there are and glue on a sheet
of paper (could be pink but it looks really great on
black!).
Pink Collage
Have the children look through magazines and old catalogs for pink things, cut
out and make a pink book. If you are creative, draw images that they can color,
such as a sink (making a pink sink) or a drink and expect someone to rhyme
"stink" but that is OK since they have grasped the concept of
rhyming!
Cherry Blossom
Shake popped popcorn in a paper bag with a little pink powder paint. These are
the blossoms. Glue them to a piece of construction paper or oak tag that has a
bare tree drawn on.
Flamingo
Make a simple flamingo by making a number 2 as a body and then adding legs.
Pink Plate Faces
Have children make a paper plate face of themselves. Insert a slightly inflated
pink balloon in the mouth for a pink bubble of bubble gum. With older children you could let them inflate and deflate the balloon
like a real wad of gum. This would be both hard and dangerous for the littles. Should turn out kinda cute.
Cotton Candy
Materials needed:
Coffee can (for circle stencil)
white construction paper
cotton balls
pink tempera paint
scissors, tape, glue, marker
Directions:
1. Trace the coffee can to make a circle shape for each child
2. Draw dotted lines on the circle start on outside of circle and draw down to
center. These circles will be the cones
3. Cut out circles and along the dotted lines, fold the cones into shape and tape
4. Color the cotton balls by placing in a Ziploc bag with a little bit of
tempera paint and shake to coat
5. Place colored cotton balls in cone (after paint has
dried) glue the layers on to hold in place
Impeccable Pigs (Mailbox idea)
Provide each child with a pig cut out shape and have the children paint using
pink finger paint. When the paint has dried the
children can glue on a large wiggle eye and a pink curly pipe cleaner.
Cotton Candy II
Take paper towel tubes and cotton balls and make a stick of cotton candy. Glue
all cotton on top of stick.
Make pig puppets
Begin by having each child paint a plain white paper
cup pink. When the paint dries, have the child create some pink construction
paper ears and tape them to the cup. The kids can add wiggle eyes or draw eyes
with markers. Help the kids use a sharpened pencil to poke a hole in the lower
side of the puppet. The child can then slip a finger into the hole to
manipulate the puppet.
Pink Collage
Invite children and parents to look for pink collage items at home to bring to
school. Use a very large pink poster board heart as the base for your
pink collage.
|
MAGIC PINK
PICTURES On pieces of pink construction paper, use a pink crayon to draw and color in shapes, such as hearts or flowers. Be sure to press down hard while you are coloring. Mix white tempera paint with water to make a thin wash. Then give the pink papers to your children and invite them to brush on the white wash to make the crayon drawings appear like magic. |
PINK DESIGNS
For each of your children, place a spoonful of white paint in the middle of a
piece of paper and add a drop or two of red paint.
Have the children use brushes or small sponges to mix the colors together and
create pink designs on their papers.
PINK PIGGY
PUPPETS
Give each of your children a 3-inch pink circle to use
for a pig body and a 2-inch pink circle for the pig's head. Demonstrate how to
glue the smaller circle in the center of the larger circle and draw on eyes,
ears, and a pig nose. Then show how to twist half of a pink pipe cleaner into a
curly "tail" to tape to the back of the pig body. Complete by
attaching a craft stick handle. Let the children use their puppets when
reciting nursery rhymes or singing “I'm a Little Piggy.”

Games
and Activities
Pink Math
Let each child mix spoonfuls of red and white paint in a cup. Record how many spoonfuls
of each color he or she uses and then paint a little sample of the mixed color
next to the numbers. You end up with a colorful mixing chart for your math and
science area. You can look to see who used the most spoonfuls of red, pink, or
who used the least spoonfuls, who mixed the darkest
shade, the lightest shade, etc.
Pink Spy
Play "I spy with my little eye, something that is pink" all around
the house. It is great to play this outdoors in springtime if you live near
flowering trees that are in bloom.
Pink P Words
Combine pink with other P words such as: pig,
petunias, pansies, paint, paper, paste, pop etc. The class can plant pink and
purple flowers, pat pink paint on pig or pansies shapes; play with pink play
dough (pat, push, pull), paste pink (tissue) paper as blossoms on a tree; make
pretty pink necklaces from pink dyed macaroni; and blow and pop bubbles from
pink tinted bubble solution.
PINK SEARCH
Spread a pink sheet or blanket out on the floor and place pink objects around the room where your children can easily find them. Ask the children to search for the pink objects. Whenever they find one, have them place it on the sheet or blanket. Continue the game until all the objects have been found.
