NOTE:  You may, in place of TWO DISCUSSIONS, submit a book-related project.  In all cases, students must show their project to a teacher to obtain discussion signatures on their log sheets.  Projects will be displayed in the library or on the library webpage.  Examples of a project might include one of the following:

-Students may write a book review in the Destiny library catalog as a substitute for a book discussion.  Students may write up to two reviews.  Students will receive instructions about logging into Destiny for this purpose.

-a letter, diary, journal, or blog entry written from the point of view of a character from one of your Mark Twain or Newbery Award books.  Your writing must contain evidence of connections to the story.  The entry should include situations from the book, and should be consistent with the character’s personality and actions.  The entry must be at least one page long.  For a blog entry, contact Mr. Schrag to gain access to the site.  dschrag@nkcsd.k12.mo.us

-use an event from one of your Mark Twain or Newbery Award books to write a newspaper, magazine, or online news article.  Your writing must contain evidence of actual connections to the story.  The entry should include situations from the book, including references to characters, settings, and events.  Include any pictures, photographs, illustrations, charts, maps, etc. that would help a reader to further understand the book.  The entry must be at least one page long, NOT including pictures, photographs, illustrations, charts, maps, etc.

-create a video of a booktalk or commercial for one of your Mark Twain or Newbery Award books.   The video should show evidence of planning, and should include a brief summary of the book and why you recommend it.  Use any props, costumes, etc. that would help a viewer to better understand the book.  The video should be 3-5 minutes long and should be saved on a flash drive.

-with another student(s), create a video re-enactment of an important scene from one of your Mark Twain or Newbery Award books.   The video should show evidence of planning, and should include any information to help a viewer to understand how the scene fits in to the overall story.  Use any props, costumes, etc. that would help a viewer to better understand the book.  The video should be 3-5 minutes long and should be saved on a flash drive.

-use ToonDoo (www.toondoo.com) to create a comic strip of an important scene from one of your Mark Twain or Newbery Award books.  The comic strip should show evidence of planning, and should include any information to help a viewer understand how the scene fits in to the overall story.  Detail and dialogue are important!  You must create your own account at www.toondoo.com .

Use Animoto (www.animoto.com) to create a 30 second video feature about one of your Mark Twain or Newbery Award books.  The video can be in the form of a commercial or summary of the book, but must show evidence of planning.  Include any information that would help a viewer to better understand the story.  You must create you own account at www.animoto.com .
