Classroom
and Library Birthday Book Programs
Northview birthday book programs offer families an
opportunity to recognize a student’s birthday through the donation of a book to
either their classroom or the school’s library media center.
Because of increased
food allergies and the interruption to valuable instructional time, the
practice of students bringing birthday treats will be discontinued. However, as a school, we believe it is
important to recognize children on their big day. In the process, we can also reinforce good
reading habits which in turn promote student learning.
This can be accomplished
through the school-wide Birthday Book Program.
On or around their birthday or half-birthday, students will have the
opportunity to add a book in their name to their classroom’s book
collection. The book may be brought in
by the student, or may be chosen from a selection of books housed in the
library media center exclusively for this program. A label will be placed inside the book with
the student’s name, birthday, and year of donation.
Students are also
welcome to “donate” a book to the library media center on their birthday. Instead of actually donating a book, though,
students may pay $7 to have their name and birthday placed inside a favorite
library book, similar to the classroom program.
The $7 helps fund additional books for the Northview
library media center.
Again, please note that
students will not be allowed to bring birthday treats to school. We encourage families to recognize student
birthdays through either a book donation to their classroom or through the
library’s birthday book program.
If you’d like to
participate in the library book donation program, please complete this
form. You do not need to complete this
form for a birthday book donation to a classroom. Please contact library media specialist David
Schrag with any questions. (816)
