1. Choose your role. There are several roles that you may choose to work together in. Each group member
must choose a different role. If you are working as a group of 2 choose two different roles, If you are working
as a group of four, choose one role:
Researcher: Goes to research sites under topic and finds information as much information as possible about it.
Puzzle Master: Visits puzzle sites experiments on how to create the different puzzles. Helps group decide on
which puzzle to use. Creates puzzle using information decided on by group.
Organization Specialist: Keeps others on task, facilitates discussions, keeps track of all papers in an
organized manner, organizes and turns in final project.
Graphic Designer: Designs puzzle page coversheet, adds graphics to puzzle.
All group members: are responsible for evaluating information , ranking 10 most important pieces of
information for inclusion in puzzle, helping other in their roles as needed, filling out and putting their
initials on the evidence portion of the evaluation.
2. Choose a theme.
3. Research the theme you have chosen. Click on the theme in that you have
chosen to go its resource page. Remember to site your sources. Here is a sample of how to write a third grade level
4. Decide on what is the most important information about your theme.
Make a list of definitions, vocabulary, important people, dates, and details that you find.
5. Choose and Create a puzzle type. Click on one of the puzzle types below to go to
the Puzzlemaker generator. Follow the directions on this website to create your puzzle using
information you have collected about your theme. If you are using a puzzle that does not have questions,
you will need to make extra copies of your puzzle, type out questions in a word processing program and
copy and past them to the puzzle page before you turn it in to the publisher. Make sure to create a coversheet,
answer sheet, and bibliography.
6. Check evaluation rubric and make sure that you will receive a high
score from the editors.
7. Save your puzzle and solution to your file folder.
8. Print a copy of your puzzle with coversheet, solution, and bibliography and submit to teacher.
9. Receive your copy of the finished puzzle magazine after it has been published! Everyone who
submits a puzzle will receive a complementary copy.
