SECRET SAMPLE MULTIPLICATION CRYPTOGRAM

Rationale:

    This lesson was created by Lianne Zuber, as part of the North Kansas City eMINTS '03 training. I wanted to create a lesson to help review multiplication facts at a higher level with a purpose.  I also wanted to have a webquest that had a unique product.  I have not seen any webquests that have cyrptographing.

Learners:

    The Puzzler Webquest was designed for third graders, however the concepts and sites can be used to help review multiplication or division facts in grades 2-5.

Standards Addressed: MA1, MA3, MA4, CA3, CA 5; Goal 1(all), Goal 2.1, 2.2, Goal 3.1,3.2

Mathematics In Mathematics, students in Missouri public schools will acquire a solid foundation which includes knowledge of

1. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; other number sense, including numeration and estimation; and the application of these operations and concepts in the workplace and other situations

3. data analysis, probability and statistics

4. patterns and relationships within and among functions and algebraic, geometric and trigonometric concepts

Communication Arts In Communication Arts, students in Missouri public schools will acquire a solid foundation which includes knowledge of and proficiency in

3. reading and evaluating nonfiction works and material (such as biographies, newspapers, technical manuals)

5. comprehending and evaluating the content and artistic aspects of oral and visual presentations (such as story-telling, debates, lectures, multi-media productions)

 

GOAL 1: Students in Missouri public schools will acquire the knowledge and skills to gather, analyze and apply information and ideas.
