On the first grade level, we looked at "Sunflowers" by the artist Vincent Van Gogh.  Students created their own still life by  painting with tempera paint, then using oil pastel to complete.  What shapes did we use in our paintings? 

Second grade uses shapes to create a radial pattern with multiple lines of symmetry.  Can you find all of the lines of symmetry in the artwork? 

Fifth grade learns how the Renaissance  artist Leonardo DaVinci  observed how things in the distance become lighter because of the atmosphere around them.

This activity allowed 5th grade students to explore the difference between realism and abstraction. The students used a black square to choose a section to draw larger,  then paint with the color scheme of their choice.
