Welcome to Mrs. Wright’s class.  We currently have 26 students in our class.  I am excited for this school year.  We will be working hard to become better readers and faster at our math skills.  I encourage you to ask your child every night about their day at school.  Have them tell you something they learned that day.  I don’t send home much homework.  On occasion, I will send a Math or Reading worksheet.  Tuesday nights will be reading night.  I encourage you to work on Spelling, Math facts and reading EVERY night.

A little about myself:  I am a mother of two boys, Nick 9 and Jason 4 years. I am married to Brian.  I am one of six children.  I have been teaching for 11 years, here at Gracemor.  I love to be with my family and shopping.

We will be using the Houghtin Mifflin Reading Series. We will be reading a variety of non-fiction and fiction stories. We will work on fluency, accuracy and expression.  I will be having small reading groups this year to help provide each student with the help that they need.  Lower readers will get more one on one with me and the higher readers will get more challenging things to broaden their minds.

Our spelling words will come from our stories.  They usually have some type of pattern to them.  Challenge list is for those who miss less than 2 on their pre-test.

In math we will be working on basic math facts through 20.  We will be working on money, telling time, adding and subtracting with or without regrouping and other things throughout the year.  So continue to practice at home too!!

In Science we will be studying Rocks and Soil.

In Social Studies we will be studying economics.

Keep working on math skills at home.  Flash cards are a great way to keep students up on their math facts!  We will be taking timed tests.  They consist of 50 problems and they get 3 minutes to do it.

Keep reading at home!  Our class goal is that everyone will read 20 books at home each month.    Ms. Kupka expects that each student will read 32 books throughout the year.
