"You can't
educate a child who isn't healthy, and you can't keep children healthy who
are not educated" Jocelyn
Elders, M.D.
School Nursing is a
specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being,
academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate
positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety;
intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management
services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family
capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.
Your School Nurse:
- Promotes
the health and safety of students and staff.
- Provides
nursing care, performs nursing assessments, manages acute and chronic
illnesses, and responds to all emergencies/crisis situations.
- Provides
Health Education to students, staff, and families and identifies
all health and safety concerns in school.
- Acts
as a liaison to State and Community agencies and participates in program
and policy development.
- The
School Nurse must be experienced, multiskilled, independent, creative,
flexible, and, most importantly, care for
kids!
