What is the Children’s Literature Festival?

Where can I get more information?

What authors / illustrators will be there?

What do I have to do to qualify?

Is there a timeline for qualifying?

What are this year’s nominees?

Can you suggest some other good books to read?

How do I know if a book qualifies for the Literature Festival?

NEW FOR 2011-2012 (Last updated, August 12, 2011):

There are LOTS of changes to the Literature Festival field trip this year, and I haven’t been able to keep up with them all just yet.  I will update this information (especially the timeline!) in the days and weeks to come, but until then, check out the Library Blog for information straight from Mr. Schrag.

Is there a timeline for qualifying?

One really good way to make it to the Literature Festival is to set goals.  Beginning on the first day of school, August 24, 2011, there are 184 calendar days until the final deadline of February 24, 2012.  Below is a suggested timeline for qualifying—questionnaires can be turned in on any date—but the dates in bold are official and nonnegotiable.

(Some dates fall on weekends / holidays.  Turn those questionnaires in the next school day.)

How do I know if a book qualifies for the Literature Festival?

Use the Mark Twain Master List that includes most nominees and winners

(we have found a few books missing from the list) and the list of Newberry Winners.

Every book on either list is a qualifying book.
